Vaikom is one of the oldest townships of State of Kerala, having the richest Cultural heritage blended with natural beauty, situated on the banks of vembanad lake. This town and its suburb had a significant role in the time of the renaissance movements of Kerala, followed by the Temple entry proclamation accessing the prohibited public environs of Vaikom Mahadeva Temple. The Iconic Symbel of this town is Vaikom Siva Temple. The Temple is more than five hundred years old. Vaikom is also beautiful with enchanting backwaters, canals, rivers, and lagoons. The livelihoods of the people are mainly agriculture and traditional industries. Being a Temple town there are so many art and cultural theaters that are functioning actively and are involved in the art and cultural life of the people in this area. Besides these cultural activities, people are engaged with cottage industries for their livelihood. Coir-related industries, cotton cloth weaving using handlooms, and clay pottery making are a few examples of the craftsmanship of the people, extinguishing in the modern world, still preserved in Vaikom. Itinerary
Our guides will meet you at Cochin port at 9 am and lead you to the Vehicle. Vaikom is a small township situated 35 km South of cochin. (1 hr) at 10 am, visit the Khadi weaving center where women are engaged with weaving cotton cloths by using the handlooms. Spinning of years and weaving the clothes by using the handlooms are fascinating scenes. After watching the weaving process, proceed to white Gate Hotel there you have a break for refreshment at 11 am visit Vaikom Siva Temple, the oldest, biggest, and most beautiful temple in Kerala. At 11.45 am, visit the coir factory in vaikom town, there, you can see how people make coir yarn using fine coconut fibers, and also watch the traditional process of crafting coir carpets and nets using age-old techniques. From 12 am to 1 pm you will spend the time in the cultural center at Vaikom called Kalakshetra. There you will enjoy the different traditional dances and music performances.From 1 PM to 2 PM, a lunch break will be arranged at a homestay called Orchid Villa. Enjoy the freshly prepared lunch at orchid Villa. After the lunch, you go for a one-hour backwater tour in the Murinjapuzha Backwater area, relax, and enjoy the enchanting beauty of Backwater at 4.30 pm you will be dropped off at the pier.
